New to Church?
What to expect when you walk in the door
When you come in our front or side doors just off our parking lot, expect to see some friendly faces and to receive a warm welcome. You will be given a worship bulletin, which will describe the order of worship. Children are expected, encouraged, and welcome at all services. If you have young children consider picking up a bag of quiet activities to keep them engaged during worship. When you are ready, find a place where you are comfortable sitting, find a red worship book (they are located in or near all seating), and listen to the music as we prepare to begin.
What to expect during worship
Pr. Katie Hines-Shah and our worship leaders will start the service with a word of welcome and special announcements. We are a liturgical church, which means that the service will follow a similar format from week to week.
We often begin the service with some kind of responsive reading and singing. There will be readings from the Bible, music from our choirs, and reflections from the pastor for children and adults at most services. There will be time for singing and praying. We will collect an offering during each worship service for the church and its ministries. While financial gifts are always appreciated, they are never expected. Every Sunday we share in Holy Communion, a symbolic meal of bread that is broken and wine that is poured out. All those who have communed previously are welcome to take communion. The service concludes with more singing and a blessing.
If you need to leave at any time, you can do so. When a break is required, an un-staffed nursery is provided for restless children and their parents. Bathrooms are well labeled and close to the sanctuary. Ushers are available to assist you if you need any help.
What to expect after worship
After worship follow the crowd to the hall for coffee hour. People usually catch up and visit with each other for a time after worship. New visitors are greeted and brought into conversation. Each week a volunteer provides some kind of snack to go with fairly traded coffee.
