Holy Week Schedule
Stations of the Cross
Wednesday, March 21 – Friday, March 30
The week and a half before Easter walk through the Stations of the Cross in the lower level corridor of the church. This will be an opportunity to participate in the practice of meditating on each of the events of Holy Week (Passion or Palm Sunday to Easter). You may read scripture, pray, listen to sacred music, and take part in a suggested creative activity.
Palm Sunday/Passion Sunday
Sunday, March 25 – 8:30am and 11:00am
On this day we recall Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. We will begin the service with our own palm procession and joyful hymns. Yet we will not forget that Jesus’ kingship is like no other. Jesus’ reign will come with a cross and not a crown. Come hear the whole story told by our reader’s theatre.
Thursday, March 29 – 7:0opm
On this night we remember Jesus’ last meal with his friends and the one who would betray him. We will follow Jesus command to love others as he has loved us symbolized in the washing of feet. We will share Holy Communion. The service will conclude with the stripping of the altar.
Friday, March 30 – 7:00pm
At this most solemn service of the Christian year, we will recall the night of Jesus’ death And the weight of our sin. Redeemer’s Festival Choir and Alleluia Ringers along with the Chicago Gargoyle Brass will present a contemplative service. Along with lessons, psalms, prayers, and music, we experience the closing in of darkness as candles are extinguished throughout the service. We leave in silence, but not without hope.
Sunday, April 1 – 8:30am and 11:00am
“Alleluia! Christ is Risen!” will be our cry as we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord! Our church will be filled with light and color. Easter flowers will be arrayed, the brass will play, the choir will sing and all will rejoice! Between services (starting at 9:45am), there will be an Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Breakfast Fundraiser for the Youth Mission Trip. Bring your friends and family! This is one day not to miss! Childcare will be provided at both services.
