Redeemer Engaging Refugees Adult Ed Focus

During January, Redeemer will have a months worth of opportunities focused on the plight and experience of refugees. We have partnered with two local organizations to help us learn about this humanitarian crisis that is ever present.

Refugee Stories with Ethnic Coffee Hour-January 22 9:45am-10:30am

During Adult Ed on January 22, join for Refugee stories and a panel discussion. During this time, there will be a diversity in the coffee hour offerings to reflect the Ethnic backgrounds of some refugees we will be learning about. This is a great precursor if you plan to join the afternoon simulation. Coffee Hour will be presented in the Parish Room.

Fleeing For Your Life: A Refugee Journey Simulation-January 22 1pm-2:30pm

Join us on January 22 for a powerful education opportunity. In this interactive simulation, we will take on the roles of refugees forced to flee their homeland, making tough decisions along the way. Facilitated in-person, this immersive experience engages participants through compelling true stories and discussion questions.

Participants must sign up and you can do so HERE. Space is limited, if there is enough interest, a second session may be added.

Welcome to America! Pack: Exodus World Service

Turn an empty apartment into a home by collecting and delivering new, basic household items for the kitchen, bath, and bedroom. A trained Redeemer member will meet a refugee individual or family on the day they arrive in the U.S. and personally welcome them with the essentials.

Winter Focus: Adult Forum Education Opportunities

Professor Kurt Hendel from LSTC is back for his traditional pre-Lenten teaching series at Redeemer! In the four weeks he will be with us he will focus on Christian antisemitism, particularly on Luther’s writings and on the Shoah (the Holocaust and it’s implications). He writes, “I will address these specific topics in light of the scriptural and Lutheran ethic of faith active in love.” The series will conclude with Kurt’s ever popular “Fireside Chat” on February 12th where you get to ask Kurt any questions you might have about Luther, theology, the modern church or anything else!  See you one Sundays!

Tuesday Morning’s with Pastor Katie

Pastor Katie leads a lectionary-based study  on mornings at 10AM. We meet the first Tuesay of the month in person in the Parish Room and the other Tuesdays of the month via Zoom. This group studies the texts for the upcoming Sunday. No preparation necessary – just log in and grab your favorite Bible. (We typically follow the Revised Common Lectionary. Texts for the week are available in several places online, (such as this one.) or in the weekly email the Wednesday before. Thursdays2Gather with Vicar Kelsey

Join Vicar Kelsey on the second Thursday of each month to spend some learning and fellowship time together.
