Redeemer’s organ was built and installed by the Berghaus Organ Company Inc. of Bellwood, Illinois as part of the sixtieth anniversary celebration of the congregation. Dedication of the organ was on October 21, 1984 with a morning service followed by an evening recital by Paul Manz. The two manual, 24 stop, 30 rank, 1,500 pipe tracker instrument is eloquently crafted out of red oak, rosewood, boxwood, and maple. One interesting feature of the organ is the set of pipes that project horizontally into the nave. The 16’ Regal stop, common in many European organs, creates a distinctive solo color, and when built in 1984, it was the first Regal en Chamade in the Chicago area.
In 2013, the organ was renovated by Berghaus, which included revoicing and rescaling of multiple ranks, new reeds, and extensive cleaning. The instrument is heard weekly leading the congregation in joyful worship through the singing of liturgy and hymns, choral accompaniments, and solo literature.
Dear Friends of Music,
Music ranks second only to theology in the Lutheran tradition. Consequently, Redeemer welcomes children, youth, and adults to grow in faith and nurture their musical gifts through a diverse spectrum of sacred music. Now is the time to get involved in this exciting time of musical rejuvenation! Our groups rehearse weekly and enhance our worship through joyful songs of praise that proclaim the good news of the Gospel. There is a music ensemble for everyone, and there is a special place for you. Psalm 33:3 proclaims that we as God’s people should sing to him a new song, and play skillfully with a shout of joy. Come and be a part of the musical life and excitement. Musically yours,
Graeme Shields, Director of Music Ministries
