A New Opportunity to Serve
As Redeemer continues to joyfully serve our neighbors in many ways, a new branch of our serving has become a reality. In September 2022, a group of 8 members formed RER (Redeemer Engaging Refugees). The group is focusing on how we can educate ourselves to help and serve refugees. We have found two organizations that will help us meet these goals. Join RER members in January as we learn and grow in many ways.
During January 2023, Redeemer had a whole months worth of opportunities focused on the plight and experience of refugees. We partnered with two local organizations to help us learn about this humanitarian crisis that is ever present.
On February 12, 2023 a meeting was held for the congregation to join RER members to discuss the next steps which include:
- Investigate being a partner with another church already serving refugees
- Volunteer and build relationships with both Exodus and World Relief Chicagoland and others
- Tutoring at Redeemer possibly in future
- Follow up with congregation for a Refugee Sunday in June

Welcome to America! Pack
Through Exodus World Service, we can turn an empty apartment into a home for a needy family by collecting and delivering basic household items for the kitchen, bath, bedroom, and a month’s supply of food staples.
During January, Redeemer members donated all the necessary items so that we can meet the needs of a refugee family. Thank you for your generous spirit in this endeavor!
New Neighbor for Youth Program
The RER committee learned over the last month that the biggest need at Exodus World Service is the need to help children. In this program, adult volunteers visit weekly for three months with an elementary/middle school student. Volunteers help increase academic skills and confidence through fun activities, and partner with refugee parents on how to support their child’s learning. Materials are provided.
